Report – West Brom ‘likely’ to rekindle interest in 30y/o striker this summer
West Brom are “likely” to rekindle their interest in Charlton Athletic striker Lyle Taylor this summer, according to Sky Sports News.
The 30-year-old has made headlines on Monday after it was revealed by Addicks boss Lee Bowyer that the forward has refused to return to action for the club later this month when the Championship season is expected to resume.
Taylor is out of contract this summer, and is understood to have turned down the offer of a new deal at The Valley late last year.
Bowyer admitted during an interview with Jim White on talkSPORT that the player is anxious about the prospect of getting injured ahead of a potential “life-changing” move this summer.
Citing that interview, Sky Sports made reference to a report from December in which they suggested West Brom were eager to make a move for the striker in January.
That move never happened, but Sky go on to suggest that it is “likely” that that interest in the player will continue into the upcoming transfer window.
Swansea City, Sheffield Wednesday and Rangers are also credited with an interest in the hitman.
The situation surrounding Taylor at the moment is certainly an interesting one.
These are obviously unprecedented times, but for a player to refuse to complete a season is extraordinary.
It seems absolutely nailed on that the striker will be on the move now, and available on a free transfer to boot.
With 11 goals in 22 Championship matches this season, he clearly knows where the back of the net is, but assuming the Baggies can clinch promotion in the coming weeks, you have to wonder whether he could cut it in the Premier League.
This season is his first in the second tier, and prior to that the highest level he had played at was the Scottish Premiership.
Granted, he did bag 11 in 35 during his spell with Partick Thistle, but it would still represent a significant gamble to give a shot in the top flight.
