‘Before a ball is kicked’ – Sky pundit reacts as West Brom prepare to fire up promotion bid
David Prutton has claimed that Championship clubs like West Brom, and the EFL, will have many hurdles to clear before competitive football returns.
The EFL have set the provisional return date of June 20 for the Championship to return, although that could change between now and then.
West Brom had no new positive test findings in the latest batch of COVID-19 testing as they prepare for the Midlands derby with Birmingham.
However, the Sky Sports pundit claimed that there are still questions to be answered before a ball is kicked competitively
“If you read what Ricky Parry has put out as a statement on behalf of the EFL, it’s a date, but it’s a date that is absolutely subject to change,” he said on Sky Sports’ EFL Podcast.
“There are so many little hurdles and bigger hurdles to get over between now and then before a ball is even kicked competitively.”
There will be more hurdles, no doubt, but we’ve got over bigger ones and we’ve never been more confident that the season will restart in June.
West Brom received another massive boost to their promotion hopes on Tuesday, with the confirmation that EFL clubs can return to full-contact training.
Slaven Bilic will have a full group available to choose from, and the Baggies released pictures of the full squad in training on Monday afternoon.
With nine games to go, West Brom are eager to return to action in the Championship knowing that seven wins would guarantee promotion to the top-flight.
