EFL issue statement on season-ending vote for West Brom after key deadline – BBC
The EFL released a statement late on Tuesday night that confirmed there were alternative proposals to consider about how to end the season if fixtures can’t be fulfilled.
Ahead of today’s meeting the EFL said, “The EFL Board has received a number of submissions from Clubs in respect of proposed amendments to EFL Regulations. As a result of a number of competing proposals, these will now be discussed at tomorrow’s EFL Board meeting.”
That update was posted on Ian Dennis’ Twitter account and the BBC journalist said the deadline for these proposals was 2pm on Tuesday.
The EFL’s recommendation is to end the season on points-per-game if the fixtures can’t be played.
The majority of Championship clubs want to play on but there was a rise in positive results in the latest round of EFL testing and Preston had another positive test result after they started contact training.
That could be a big issue for them going forward, with the restart date just over two weeks away.
Points-per-game obviously suits West Brom and we’d be promoted.
Darragh MacAnthony, the owner of Peterborough, confirmed on The Football Show (June 3, 10.30am – Sky Sports) that another proposal put in would be for points-per-game that were weighted for a margin of error, with a mini-tournament for play-offs and relegation.
That would still suit West Brom, who have a six-point lead over third-placed Fulham and would go up automatically.
The West Brom News verdict? It feels like groundhog day to us and we just want everything confirmed as soon as possible before we start playing again.
The good news is that any alterations to a points-per-game model shouldn’t affect the Baggies.
