Reliable journo shares last he heard about Chris Brunt contract with deal expiring this month

Chris Brunt is eager to see out the rest of the season with West Brom even though his contract is due to expire at the end of this month, according to Steve Madeley.

Brunt, 35, has made it no secret that he is considering quitting the Baggies at the end of the season after experiencing a major lack of first-team opportunities under Slaven Bilic this term.

The former Northern Ireland international, who is West Brom’s longest-serving player, has played just nine times in all competitions this season and only five of those appearances came in the Championship.

Brunt almost left The Hawthorns to join Stoke in January but The Athletic journalist Madely reports that the veteran midfielder will want to stay put in the Black Country until the season reaches a conclusion.

Responding in a Q&A session on The Athletic website, Madely wrote: “I’m trying to get concrete information on Barry and Brunt, but the last I heard from the Brunt camp was that he was keen to stick around and play until the end of the season, whenever that came.”

Brunty would never quit on us before the season was finished.

The Northern Irishman has made 419 total appearances for the Baggies and there’s no doubt that he will want to stick around, get another promotion on his CV and potentially lift the league title in his final act at the club.

Brunt has every right to walk away on June 30 if he wishes but if there’s anyone in that dressing room you can rely on, it’s the experienced set-piece king.

In other West Brom news, David Prutton has been raving about this “phenomenal” striker after he was linked with Albion.
