‘Terrible’, ‘League One’ – West Brom Super Fans react as Albion linked with ex-PL striker

This is part of a regular series from our panel of West Brom Super Fans. Each week, our Super Fans will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around The Hawthorns.

West Brom have been linked with a shock move to sign former Wolves striker Steven Fletcher in the last few days.

TeamTalk has reported that Fletcher, 33, will be available on a free transfer once the season ends as his contract at Sheffield Wednesday will expire.

Bournemouth, Burnley, Derby, Norwich and Stoke have also been credited with an interest in the Scottish striker, who has scored 13 goals in 26 Championship appearances this season for the Owls.

West Brom are likely to be in the market for a new striker if they win promotion to the Premier League with Charlie Austin and Hal Robson-Kanu on the wrong side of 30 and failing to prove they’re prolific in recent seasons.

Fletcher is a striker with Premier League experience but some members of our panel of West Brom Super Fans are less than pleased with reported interest in the ex-Premier League forward.

Northern Irish Baggies (@NIBaggies) put it best with their simple response when asked if Fletcher would be a good signing:

Can we see West Brom signing Fletcher ahead of next season? Absolutely not.

The Scotsman has proven he is more than capable of still performing in the Championship for a mid-table side but his injury issues this season mean he wouldn’t even be worth signing if Albion failed to win promotion.

As one fan points out, Fletcher would be a great signing – if you’re preparing for life in League One.

We really hope that Luke Dowling has his sights set on better players than the former Wolves striker.

In other West Brom news, Hal Robson-Kanu has sent a message to the EFL.
