Exclusive: Ex-West Brom star reveals he’d consider Hawthorns return as a coach

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips has revealed that he would consider returning to The Hawthorns to join the West Brom coaching team if the opportunity arose.

The 46-year-old has coached at Leicester, Derby and Stoke since calling time on his illustrious playing career in 2014.

During that illustrious playing career, Phillips spent two years at The Hawthorns, in which he scored 46 goals in 80 appearances across all competitions.

Phillips helped fire the Baggies to a play-off final and the Championship title during his spell at The Hawthorns and he would now be willing to head back to the Black Country to join Slaven Bilic’s coaching team.

“I’d be interested in getting back into football,” Phillips told West Brom News. “I’ve been out of it now for about a year and a half.

“I’d love to get back on the training ground in some capacity and if there was an opportunity to get back in at West Brom, I’d certainly look at it.”

We would love to see Super Kev back at The Hawthorns if there was an opening for him and West Brom have already shown they’re open to handing coaching roles to former players with James Morrison bagging the Under-23s assistant role last week.

Phillips has a good amount of coaching experience. He was assistant first-team coach at Leicester before becoming Paul Clement’s assistant at Derby in 2015.

In 2018, the ex-Baggies star joined Gary Rowett at Stoke but left that role last January and has been available since.

In other West Brom news, Bilic has a major dilemma on the horizon for once the season resumes.
