E&S journalist wouldn’t be shocked if this Championship club eyes West Brom midfielder swoop

It has been confirmed that Chris Brunt will leave West Brom at the end of the season but what does the future hold for the 35-year-old midfielder?

Brunt, who will end his 13-year association with the Baggies in coming weeks, has no plans to hang up his boots just yet as he feels he has some more left in him to continue playing.

That is largely why the former Northern Ireland international is leaving The Hawthorns this year with him appearing just nine times across all competitions for Slaven Bilic.

Stoke came close to signing Brunt in the January transfer window and it seems that the Midlands club could revive that interest once he becomes a free agent.

Express & Star journalist Matt Maher claimed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday that he “wouldn’t be shocked” to see Stoke come back in for Brunt.

Stoke are managed by Brunt’s old Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill so there is definitely a good chance those two will reunite in the Potteries in the summer.

It remains to be seen what role Brunt could play at Stoke if he goes there but as seen when West Brom have signed experienced players in the past – like Gareth Barry and Darren Fletcher – they can have a big impact on the squad.

In other West Brom news, Kevin Phillips has tipped this £11.9million ace to transform into a “top player” if he joins Albion.
