Report – West Brom in talks over potential friendly v PL club next Friday
West Brom are discussing the possibility of playing a friendly against Manchester United next Friday, according to the Daily Mail.
The Baggies played out a 2-2 draw against local rivals Aston Villa behind closed doors at Villa Park on Saturday, with Filip Krovinovic and Kamil Grosicki both on the score sheet as Slaven Bilic’s men were twice pegged back by their hosts.
The match took the form of three half hour sessions, with most players completing 30 minutes as both clubs rotated through playing squads of 25 men.
It is understood that strict social distancing measures were upheld as around 50 players and coaches occupied the stands, with the dugout left for medical staff.
And the Mail now claim that Albion are holding talks over the possibility of another friendly against Premier League giants Man United as they look to step up their preparations for the Championship returning later this month.
The report suggests that nothing has been agreed just yet, but that any game between the Baggies and the Reds would likely be held at Old Trafford.
This is good news all-round really.
A 2-2 draw against Villa, no matter the circumstances, is nothing to be sniffed at, and it sounds as if the lads put in a decent enough performance.
A couple of goals and the opportunity to get used to playing in an empty stadium certainly isn’t a bad thing, nor is this talk of another game next Friday.
The more preparation we can get in, the better our chances of hitting the ground running when things really matter on June 20th.
Another match would be good for fitness, as well as the psychological impact of playing under such unusual circumstances.
Opponents don’t come much bigger than Manchester United, and hopefully the run out and the challenge would help us tune up just that little bit more
