‘Unbelievable’ – Exclusive: Kevin Phillips reacts to West Brom player announcement

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips is not surprised to see that Chris Brunt will be leaving West Brom at the end of the season and has dubbed the midfielder as a Baggies legend.

Brunt, 35, will aim to find a new club once a conclusion to the 2019/20 season is reached and recent speculation has linked him with a move to Stoke City.

Ex-Albion striker Phillips spoke to Brunt a few weeks back and he says that the Northern Irishman hinted he’d be on the move this summer.

Phillips has also paid tribute to his former team-mate for his impact at the Baggies both on and off the pitch.

“I had a Zoom call with Chris and he kind of eluded to the fact this might be his last season at West Brom,” Phillips told West Brom News.

“He’s been an unbelievable servant. He was voted their best captain over the last couple of decades and he’s a great footballer and a real gentleman.

“He helps you on and off the pitch so we wish him all the best. He certainly feels he has two or three years left in him.

“He’s left as a legend at West Brom.”

We hope that Brunt can still help Albion win promotion back to the Premier League.

He’s won two promotions in his time at The Hawthorns and a third would be massively appreciated before he moves onto pastures new.

It is a shame he won’t get a proper send-off but there’ll no doubt be a testimonial at some stage in the future.

In other West Brom news, Filip Krovinovic has shared footage of his goal against Aston Villa.
