West Brom get title boost as promotion rivals suffer major injury problem – report
West Brom hopes of lifting the Championship trophy were given a boost on Wednesday with the news that Leeds’ striker Jean-Kevin Augustin has suffered an injury.
Local journalist Phil Hay delivered the bad news for Leeds on Wednesday morning.
If it’s confirmed as a hamstring injury then he’s unlikely to play any part in the first few weeks of the restarted campaign at the least.
Augustin signed for Leeds in January and has struggled with fitness ever since.
However, Leeds were expecting big things from the former PSG, Monaco and RB Leipzig man post-lockdown and his injury will leave them short up top.
Patrick Bamford is their only recognised senior striker now, with former West Brom attacker Tyler Roberts playing more of a secondary striker role.
If Bamford picks up an injury as well then it could be catastrophic for Leeds.
Injuries are likely to play a big part in the run-in – that’s been proven with the return of the Bundesliga – and it’s crucial that Slaven Bilic keeps as many of his stars fit as possible, for as long as possible.
So far, so good on that front with no fresh injury problems just over a week ahead of the restart against Birmingham a week on Saturday.
In other West Brom news, Filip Krovinovic has shared footage of his goal against Aston Villa.
