‘It’s a shame’ – James Morrison reacts to upcoming West Brom exit
James Morrison has claimed the it will be a “shame” to see Chris Brunt leave West Brom this summer.
The 35-year-old will exit The Hawthorns after 13 years with the Baggies, with the Express and Star reporting that a move to Championship rivals Stoke City is on the cards.
But fellow Albion favourite James Morrison, who recently took on a role with the club’s U23s, has suggested that it will be odd for both his former teammate and West Brom supporters to see him lining up for another side.
Speaking to the Express and Star, he said: “It’s going to be really strange for Brunty when he does walk away and it will be strange for the fans as well.
“You can only describe it as an end of an era. The supporters are used to seeing him and being a part of things. It’s a shame for everyone really he is moving on but he will leave a modern day legend.
“He has made more than 400 appearances, won promotions, scored beautiful goals, got assists and skippered the team. And he has stuck with the club through thick and thin.
“I think fans know Chris has always had the best interests of the club at heart.”
We’re all gutted by the prospect of Brunt leaving, but if we’re being honest, now is probably the best time for him to do so.
With just eight appearances to his name this season, and with a potential step up to the Premier League on the cards next term, it does feel as if his two options are move on or retire.
If he feels he still has something to offer a team, and that he can earn one last payday in the process, then none of us can begrudge him that – even if it will be bizarre to see him in anything other than a Baggies shirt.
