‘No matter which division’ – Journalist details position Bilic will focus on in transfer window

West Brom have been backed by Express and Star journalist Joseph Masi to be busy in the goalkeeping department once the transfer window opens.

Alex Palmer has been tipped to breakthrough at the Hawthorns next season after his successful loan spell at Plymouth, with Sam Johnstone set to keep his spot as number one.

Jonathan Bond and Ali Al-Habsi are both out of contract in the summer, and it is uncertain whether or not they will earn new deals at the Hawthorns.

Masi suggested that the Oman international, Al-Habsi, could yet retire at the end of the season as he approaches his 39th birthday.

“The goalkeeping department is likely to be an area Albion are busy in when the transfer window reopens – no matter which division they are in,” he wrote.

“Both Jonathan Bond and Ali Al-Habsi are out of contract at the end of the campaign and it is not yet known if Albion will be offering them new deals.

“But with Al-Habsi set to turn 39 in December, the Oman international may be considering retirement.”

Al-Habsi has definitely been a player brought in for his experience at this stage of his career, with there being a very slim chance of him featuring.

Bilic and West Brom may want to keep one of the two around past this season to keep their depth. Bond could have more of a chance of that.

The English stopper featured at Old Trafford on Friday afternoon as the Baggies played a couple of friendlies against Manchester United – maybe the first sign that he could be set to sign a new deal at the club.
