Veteran promotion rival fires ‘hunting’ warning at West Brom and Leeds
Nottingham Forest defender Michael Dawson has claimed that his side are intent on “hunting” West Brom and Leeds United down when the Championship resumes.
Forest are currently fifth in the table, 10 points behind the Baggies with nine games left to play.
But the veteran centre-back has suggested that he and his teammates are determined to recapture the imperious form that saw them lose just one of their first 11 league matches this term – against Albion.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Dawson said: “We’ve put ourselves in a good position and we’re hunting West Brom and Leeds down.
“They’ve got some big games coming up against play-off rivals – Brentford and Fulham. We all have to play them.
“It’s just about hitting the ground running, like we did at the start of the season. In the first 11 games, we lost once and then we were unbeaten in the next 10.
“That’s the kind of form you’re going to need if you’re going to hunt the top two teams down.”
You can’t really knock Dawson for his stance here.
If the roles were reversed and it was Albion who were fifth in the table, we would be clamouring for our players to show some grit and fighting spirit.
What you would have to say, however, is that 10 points is a big chasm to make up in just nine matches.
Bear in mind that we beat Forest earlier this season, and it’s difficult to see them as too much of a threat.
But even taking into consideration Fulham, who are four points nearer to us in the table, the Baggies just have to keep their head down and focus on themselves.
If they do that, they will put themselves in the best possible position to go up.
