West Brom have ‘big chance’ of signing int’l defender if they win PL promotion – reliable journo
West Brom have a “big chance” of signing Wigan left-back Antonee Robinson if they win promotion to the Premier League, according to Alan Nixon.
The Sun journalist was asked on Twitter on Sunday how likely it would be for Robinson, 22, to head to The Hawthorns if Slaven Bilic takes the Baggies back into the top-flight this season.
Nixon replied to simply to suggest it’s a deal that it’s very likely to take place.
Robinson has had a rollercoaster of a season at the DW Stadium.
He impressed so much in the first half of the campaign that AC Milan launched an unexpected move to sign the seven-times USA international.
According to a report by the Daily Mail in January, Milan were willing to pay £10million for the former Everton left-back.
However Robinson’s dream move to the San Siro was soul-crushingly cancelled as an irregular heart rhythm was found in his medical with the Italian giants.
Robinson had to undergo treatment on the heart issue and has only just returned to training with Wigan but it seems that he still has the chance to make a big move at some point in 2020.
West Brom will need a new left-back in the next transfer window, especially if they win promotion to the Premier League.
Kieran Gibbs is the wrong side of 30 and has had continual injury issues this season while Nathan Ferguson’s contract expires at the end of June and he’s likely to head to Crystal Palace.
Conor Townsend did brilliantly pre-lockdown but it remains to be seen how the former Scunthorpe left-back would perform in the Premier League.
Robinson seems good enough to take the step up to the top-flight and we would be happy to see him join the Baggies before next season.
