‘Amazing’ – These West Brom fans react to ‘uplifting’ tweet from ‘absolute legend’

West Brom fans have taken to social media to express their adoration for wide man Matheus Pereira.

The 24-year-old has made a huge impact at The Hawthorns this term, scoring six goals and assisting 16 more in 33 Championship outings.

The Brazilian is currently on loan from Sporting Lisbon, and needs to make just one more appearance this season to automatically trigger an £8 million permanent move, as per The Athletic.

His contributions haven’t gone unnoticed either.

Albion shared a tweet to their official account on Sunday praising the South American and asking for “more of the same” when the Championship returns next weekend.

And Pereira only served to endear himself to the fanbase even more with his response.

Writing on his personal account, he said: “I will try my best to help the team and my teammates again!”.

His attitude is top quality, as is his output, and £8 million looks like a steal for a player who will surely thrive in the top flight.

This term he has had a higher pass completion rate than Grady Diangana, a higher cross completion rate, more shots per game, and a higher total action success rate, as per Wyscout.

Both have been superb, of course, but it has felt at times as if Pereira has been the one who has taken the back seat.

Now, however, with a permanent deal on the brink of completion, Pereira should be able to step out of his fellow loanee’s shadow a little and assert himself as a West Brom hero.

He’s shown time and time again what he can do for the Baggies, now it’s a case of helping us to seal promotion and setting the Premier League alight next season.

It’s not a simple task, but it’s one that the Brazilian is good enough to pull off.
