‘We have an agreement’ – EFL chairman responds to fan as West Brom linked with 24-goal hotshot
West Brom haven’t yet earned promotion to the Premier League, but still some transfer rumours refuse to go away.
Football Insider have reported recently that the Baggies are interested in bringing Peterborough forward Ivan Toney to the Hawthorns.
The League One club’s director of football Barry Fry has previously suggested that it would take £15million to tear him away from the club.
Slaven Bilic is reportedly eager to bring a new centre-forward to the club, and Toney has also attracted interest from Celtic.
Peterborough’s chairman Darragh MacAnthony has now responded to a question on the future of his star forward and it will bring hope to the Baggies.
“We could keep him and not sell at all,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.
“But, we have an agreement with the player to go to a higher level if the deal is right.”
Toney has been in unbelievable form this season, scoring 24 goals – the most in League One by nine goals.
West Brom have been lacking an out-and-out goalscorer this season, with Charlie Austin and Hal Robson-Kanu struggling to find the back of the net frequently.
The Welsh international has reached double figures for the first time, but he is nowhere near the level of Aleksander Mitrovic and Ollie Watkins.
Robson-Kanu has in fact been outstanding in other ways, occupying the opposing defence superbly and Toney could certainly come in and help by finding the back of the net.
