Bilic confirms major West Brom boost ahead of clash v Birmingham
West Brom boss Slaven Bilic has admitted that he has a selection headache for the upcoming clash against Birmingham on Saturday, with too many players fit and healthy and ready to play.
The Baggies have played both Aston Villa and Manchester United in the build-up to the Championship restart, getting positive results in both.
It has been the perfect time for injured players to recover, with both Grady Diangana and Ahmed Hegazi returning to full fitness.
Bilic claimed that he has one or two too many in his squad, and will need to disappoint a couple of faces in the first game back.
“Selection is the only question mark that I have at the moment,” he told West Brom’s official website.
“We have a good squad. We are not overloaded because every season, during the season you can expect some injuries or suspensions, but now it is time and the positive in this situation is that all the players came back and they are healthy
“Maybe now we have one or two too many for the first game. Of course, we are going to need all of them in the small World Cup, that I like to call it, these nine games.”
With nine games between the Baggies and promotion to the Premier League, they couldn’t be in a better spot right now.
Bilic would much rather have one or two too many than a handful of players missing, and as he mentioned himself, he will need every single player between now and the end of July.
Diangana is a great option to have back available, with the 22-year-old a real threat down either wing. The Baggies have missed his pace and trickery at times during his long-term absence.
The West Ham loanee hasn’t played since January and will be eager to return. Diangana averages an impressive 8.14 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Championship – compare that to Matheus Pereira, who only averages 7.4 and you can see just how important he is [WyScout].
It’s a nine-game sprint now, and both Bilic and the Baggies appear to be in perfect shape for that.
