View: West Brom boost for one remaining fixture as C’ship club quartet ruled out of final games

Hull City are in a lot of trouble.

The Humberside club is just two points above the Championship’s relegation zone and have not won a league game since New Years Day.

On top of all their woes, they still have to play West Brom away at The Hawthorns on July 5 and have other tricky fixtures to play against the likes of Bristol City, Millwall and Cardiff.

If you’re going to put money one someone outside of the current bottom-three being relegated, it’s Hull.

West Brom played a role in Hull’s demise in January when Kamil Grosicki was brought from the Humberside club for around £800,000.

Grosicki was a key player at the KCOM but has not started a game for the Baggies as his addition was more just to add depth to a squad that had suffered with a few injuries and a drop in form in the winter.

Hull also sold their star player Jarrod Bowen to West Ham.

And it seems the Tigers’ troubles are about to get a lot worse with four of their players refusing to sign new contracts.

In a statement on their website on Tuesday, Hull confirmed that Eric Lichaj, Jackson Irvine, Stephen Kingsley and Marcus Maddison will play no further part in the 2019/20 season and will exit the KCOM on June 30 when their contracts expire.

It’s been bombshell after bombshell for Hull fans this season and this latest setback is a huge one.

No outfield player has made more appearances for the Tigers this season than Australia international Irvine while Lichaj has also been a mainstay in their side.

Maddison and Kingsley have been used more sparingly but still, losing two back-up options isn’t ideal either.

Mallik Wilks will also see his loan deal end on June 30, meaning that they’ll be losing one of their main forwards.

Hull’s loss is likely to be West Brom’s gain though with Slaven Bilic’s men hosting a match against the Yorkshire club next month.

Albion will want to get promotion to the Premier League sealed as soon as possible and as Hull are their fourth opponents after the restart, a big win against them could go a long way in terms of the promotion race.
