Big West Brom promotion rivals confirm positive Covid-19 test ahead of Championship restart
The Championship season is days away from restarting, and any player returning a positive COVID-19 test will miss the first round of fixtures.
In the latest round of testing, as confirmed by the EFL on Wednesday, eight individuals from six separate Championship clubs returned a positive test.
West Brom haven’t delivered an update as of yet, but Bristol City shared that they were one of the clubs affected by the pandemic. And more news has just dropped…
Wednesday brought another update, and this time it was a club rivalling the Baggies for promotion this season.
Brentford confirmed on their official Twitter account that they had one positive test and that individual concerned is now self-isolating and won’t be at the game against Fulham on Saturday.
Should that be one of their standout players such as Ollie Watkins or Said Benrahma, they would have a much-weaker squad at their disposal for the opening weekend.
Both Fulham and Brentford have tough fixtures against the likes of Leeds and the Baggies, and any positive findings could make them considerably weaker.
Leeds have reportedly had one positive test since the return to training, and although that wasn’t confirmed by the club, they will be out of self-isolation by now.
The Bundesliga has led the way for football returning, and there haven’t been any major outbreaks of COVID-19 there, so hopefully if the EFL and the Premier League follow those measures the same will happen here.
