View: Journalist makes exciting claim about powerhouse reportedly eyed by West Brom

It’s never normally a big thing when you see your club linked with signing an Argentina international and that is exactly what has happened with West Brom in recent weeks.

TyC Sports reported in May that the Baggies had set their sights on signing San Lorenzo striker Adolfo Gaich, a 6ft 3 striker with an £11.8million release clause and promisingly nicknamed ‘The Tank’.

Even more promisingly, a clutch of top European clubs had also been linked with Gaich, including Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan.

If Barca and PSG are keen, then maybe West Brom are a bit out of their depth with this one.

Now, a claim from player-turned-journalist José Antonio Martín has told San Lorenzo Primero that Gaich has the physical qualities of Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

He also tipped Gaich to move to Europe in the near future and said that Spanish club Huesca had an offer laughed off by San Lorenzo in the summer.

“Gaich has a very clear European horizon. He is not so much of a scorer, but has a physical strength similar to that of Haaland. Selling him for less than [£8.9million] is not a good business.

“Last summer [Huesca] went looking for him, but when we wanted to bid he gave them a fit of laughter.”

Gaich is being talked up so much that it seems too good to be true that West Brom are being linked with him.

But, the Premier League does have a huge pull and Gaich could see The Hawthorns as a place to make a name for himself in Europe as he’s more likely to get game-time there than he would in Barcelona, Paris or Milan.

Who knows? It’s an exciting thought that next season, West Brom’s attack could be spearheaded by an Argentina international.

In other West Brom news, Kevin Phillips believes Gareth Barry could be offered a coaching role at The Hawthorns.
