‘Best player on the pitch’ – Don Goodman thrilled by one West Brom ace at HT v Birmingham
Don Goodman was impressed by West Brom star Matheus Pereira for his performance in the first half against Birmingham on Saturday.
Pereira, 24, will have his permanent move to The Hawthorns made official once he plays over 45 minutes against Blues and it seems that the Baggies have snapped up a really exciting talent from Sporting CP.
The Brazilian had his moments in the first half against Blues.
His crossing into the penalty area was decent and he managed to fire a couple of shots at goal after some impressive pieces of link-up play.
Unfortunately, he didn’t provide any kind of proper attacking threat as Blues defended quite comfortably against most of the home side’s attacks.
Ex-West Brom forward Goodman was thrilled with what he saw from the Brazilian though.
“He does look sharp,” said Goodman on Sky Sports Main Event [03:18pm]. “It’s what you would expect from him.
“He looks honest, he looks really sharp, making nice passes.
“He’s looking bright and a threat to Birmingham City.”
He added later on: “He’s outstanding and the best player on the pitch so far.”
Pereira is the best player in the Championship and we hope that he can provide a bit more magic in the second half because West Brom’s attacking play has not provided too much of a threat in the opening 45 minutes.
There have been a couple of set-pieces that Pereira’s been involved with that have not worked out as the Baggies would have wanted.
It is so obvious that they haven’t played a competitive fixture in over three months.
Surely, as the match goes on, Albion will keep on improving and finally put this game to bed.
