West Brom defender details what Slaven Bilic told squad after 0-0 draw v Birmingham
Slaven Bilic told his West Brom squad that he was proud of them after their 0-0 draw against Birmingham on Saturday.
The Baggies went back to the top of the Championship, as both Fulham and Leeds lost their first games back 2-0.
There was a sense of disappointment after the goalless draw, but looking back at the fixtures from the weekend, West Brom will be delighted.
Darnell Furlong returned to the squad on Saturday, and the defender has detailed how Bilic reacted to the draw at the Hawthorns.
“Slaven said he was proud of us,” he told the official club website.
“The first one back is always difficult like I said. He said he was proud of us, just the result wasn’t there. He said we are not happy with the result but he couldn’t really ask for more from the boys’ work rate. It’s just time to build on it.”
It definitely is time to build on it, and what better opportunity to do that then a massive clash against Brentford on Friday evening.
The performance was a little flat on Saturday, but that was expected and West Brom still had the chances to earn all three points.
Bilic would have been happy with the majority of the game, his side managed to dominate possession, keeping 67% of the ball according to WhoScored.
As well as that, the home side had 13 more shots than Birmingham, and completed almost 300 more passes – a similar performance on Friday and surely the goals will come.
