‘Is this an actual joke?’, ‘Desperate’ – Many West Brom fans baffled by Leeds website claim

West Brom fans are scratching their heads over a claim that Leeds United have been handed an “advantage” in the race for the Championship title.

On Saturday, Albion moved top of the standings with a 0-0 draw against Birmingham City at The Hawthorns.

Leeds had the chance to re-take the lead 24 hours later but lost 2-0 away to Cardiff despite dominating most of the game.

Although Leeds held the advantage to win the title before the weekend because they were top of the league with a far more favourable set of fixtures than West Brom, there’s been an odd claim made by LeedsLive which suggests that the Whites have found an advantage in another way.

West Brom confirmed on Tuesday that Nathan Ferguson will be released by the club at the end of the month after he rejected the chance to sign a new contract.

It was widely expected that Ferguson, 19, would leave this summer anyway as he came close to joining Crystal Palace in January before an issue was flagged up in his medical.

Ferguson failed to join the Eagles and instead underwent season-ending surgery.

Even though the season has been pushed back into July due to the coronavirus pandemic, Ferguson was still not expected to play any part for the Baggies even if he did extend his contract.

But that hasn’t stopped LeedsLive from saying that Ferguson’s exit is an “advantage” for the Yorkshire club.

We all knew that Ferguson had played his final game for Albion back in January and it is not as though the club has struggled without him for the nine matches he’s missed since the Palace move collapsed.

Albion fans are understandably confused by the LeedsLive story and here is a selection of their tweets:
