‘Another Izzy Brown’, ‘Berahino all over again’ – Some West Brom fans react to player update
A section of West Brom fans are going to be happy to see the back of Nathan Ferguson once his contract expires at the end of this month.
Albion announced on their official website on Tuesday that Ferguson, 19, has rejected the chance to sign a new deal at The Hawthorns and will be released on June 30.
Ferguson is a product of West Brom’s academy and burst onto the scene this season when Slaven Bilic handed him his first professional start at Nottingham Forest in August.
In that match, Ferguson assisted a goal and won Sky Sports’ man of the match award as the Baggies earned a 2-1 win at the City Ground.
After that, Ferguson continued to impress and kept Darnell Furlong on the bench before moving to the left-back slot while Kieran Gibbs was injured.
Crystal Palace then tried to sign Ferguson in January but a late deal fell through when the full-back failed a medical and he has since been recovering for surgery, not playing for the Baggies since the defeat to Cardiff in January.
That was the moment when most fans made their mind up on the youngster – they didn’t want to see him play for the club again.
And after the announcement this week that he’s rejected a new deal in favour of quitting the club that developed him, more fans joined in with saying they are happy to see him heading for the exit.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
Palace are not a bigger club than West Brom and Albion are very likely to be in the Premier League next season playing against Roy Hodgson’s side.
Maybe there is something else that has happened behind the scenes that we are unaware of.
He’s only 19 and could have been easily persuaded into the move by an agent or a family member who is keen on moving to London.
