‘Giving nothing away’ – Sawyers confirms Brentford players seeking information ahead of clash

West Brom midfielder Romaine Sawyers has shared that he stays in constant contact with his former teammates at Brentford.

The Baggies playmaker claimed that he has spoken to his former teammates ahead of the Friday night clash at Griffin Park, although he isn’t giving anything away.

West Brom go into the game knowing that three points in London will put them 10-points ahead of third-placed Fulham ahead of their game against Leeds on Saturday.

Sawyers insisted that gaining three points is the most important, as his former teammates continue to text him.

“We have dialogue constantly, and it’s just a nice club,” he told AlbionTV.

“They made me the player I am today, to a certain degree, and I’m thankful for that. That gets put aside on Friday for 90 minutes at least; I’m sure my so called friends will kick me and will be as competitive as always!

“Me and the gaffer have spoken, me and Danilo [Butorovic] have spoken, a few of the boys have asked questions – even the Brentford boys have been texting me – we’re giving nothing away!”

Sawyers has certainly improved since moving to the Hawthorns from Brentford, and it is down to the added responsibility he has been given in midfield.

The 28-year-old often played on the right-hand side for the Bees, and now he is in holding midfield, everything goes through him when the Baggies are in possession of the ball.

The midfielder has already averaged more passes per game compared to last season according to WhoScored, and at a better success rate as well as keeping the ball better as he spearheads the Albion’s promotion charge.

Brentford will want to stop the influence of Sawyers, and if they can’t he could play a massive role in earning all three points.
