Matheus Pereira delivers Twitter message to West Brom fans after 1-0 loss v Brentford

It was the same old story for West Brom on Friday evening, as they lost 1-0 against Brentford at Griffin Park.

The Baggies lacked that cutting edge in the final third, with the closest they got to scoring coming from Kenneth Zohore’s strike hitting the bar from the edge of the area.

West Brom remain at the top of the Championship table before Leeds’ clash with Fulham, but if the Whites avoid defeat they will reclaim top spot.

Slaven Bilic’s starting XI raised some eyebrows in the build-up to kick-off, with Kamil Grosicki missing out entirely yet again in London.

Matheus Pereira was often crowded out in midfield and could have done with the creativity of someone such as Filip Krovinovic alongside him to help out from the start.

The Brazilian sent a message to the fans after the defeat on Friday, claiming that these spells are where his side can prove they are worthy champions.

“It hasn’t been easy but in times like these that champions are made,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

“We’ve never stopped believing. Wednesday we go again and we believe we will come out smiling. Let’s go boys. Together we are stronger.”

Pereira is right in some ways, it is vitally important how the Baggies bounce back if they want to prove they are worthy champions this season.

Friday night wasn’t the performance of champions, everyone at the Hawthorns will know that and Bilic will make sure he gets a reaction.

The most disappointing aspect of the defeat was the way that Brentford bettered Albion in almost every department. The Bees kept more of the ball, completed more passes and even won more duels according to WhoScored – something that rarely happens.

That defeat makes it four Championship games without a win, and both Pereira and his teammates will know the next game against Sheffield Wednesday is a must-win.
