Sun journo: West Brom ‘definitely in the hunt’ for double PL winner – Report
West Brom are interested in signing Joe Hart this summer, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.
The reliable reporter took to Twitter on Sunday morning to suggest that the Baggies are in the “hunt” for the 33-year-old, who will be on the move this summer after failing to agree a new deal with Burnley.
The former England number one has been limited to just three cup appearances for Albion this term, and has fallen way down the pecking order at Turf Moor.
With Ali Al-Habsi and Johnathan Bond both out of contract this summer, Albion could be on the lookout for further cover for Sam Johnstone next term, and Nixon has claimed that Hart has been identified as a target.
Writing on his personal account, he said: “West Brom.
“Definitely in the Joe Hart hunt. Need to go up to boost hopes.
“Derby County in a similar situation.”
This would no doubt be a deal that divides opinion.
Joe Hart is goalkeeper of the highest pedigree, there’s no doubting that, with two Premier League titles and 75 England caps to his name.
But it also feels as if he has been on a downwards trajectory ever since he left Manchester City.
Spells with West Ham, Torino, and Burnley have done little to repair his reputation, and at 33, he is running out of chances to prove himself once more.
Bringing him in as a back up to Johnstone could be a smart move though.
His Premier League experience would surely come in handy, and he actually made more saves per game with a higher reflex percentage in 2018/19 than Johnstone has for Albion this term, as per Wyscout.
If his wages aren’t too steep, we would be in favour of tying this one up.
