‘Marvellous’ – Colin Murray and Michael Brown lavish praise on ‘wonderful’ WBA ace v Sheff Wed

West Brom loanee Matheus Pereira has come in for high praise from Colin Murray and Michael Brown.

The Brazilian stole the show with a vital brace as the Baggies beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 on Wednesday night – a result that allowed them to reopen up a five-point gap over third-placed Brentford.

And the 24-year-old played a major role in that performance.

His efforts didn’t go unnoticed either.

Speaking on EFL on Quest (July 1st, 10.30pm), host Murray said: “It was Pereira’s night, as it so often has been.

“Pivotal, and just a marvellous debut season.”

Former Leeds United midfielder Brown then reiterated his colleague’s point: “He’s used to creating opportunities, the highest in the division, but these are his seventh and eighth goals too.

“It’s great. He started one off and then finishes with a wonderful header.

“For the second, I think Sheffield Wednesday will be disappointed with the amount of room Pereira’s created, but it was a wonderful strike.”

Pereira looked inspired on Wednesday night, and his brace was a far cry from the player who has hit the target just once with his nine attempts on goal over the past two matches, as per Wyscout.

We all know how lethal he can be in a creative sense, and the fact that he sits top of the assists charts in the Championship this season is a perfect illustration of that.

But last night’s win was a timely reminder that he is no slouch in front of goal either.

With the South American all set for a permanent move to The Hawthorns this summer, the hope and expectation will be that he is good enough to carry this kind of form into the top flight – and after Wednesday’s masterclass, you wouldn’t bet against him.
