West Brom are interested in re-signing Dwight Gayle from Newcastle United, according to Peterborough Today.
The news outlet claims that West Brom are expected to make a move to sign Ivan Toney from Peterborough but are also keen on ex-Posh striker Gayle, who spent last season on loan at The Hawthorns.
Gayle, 29, scored 24 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions for the Baggies last term as they missed out on promotion to the Premier League by losing in the Championship play-off semi-finals.
The former Crystal Palace forward has been bang in form for Newcastle since the football returned last month, scoring goals in back-to-back games against Aston Villa and Bournemouth.
Steve Bruce is a big fan of Gayle so it remains to be seen whether or not the Magpies boss will be interested in selling him ahead of next season.
Albion reportedly tried to re-sign Gayle last summer but it would not be a shock to see them try again if they win promotion to the Premier League.
However, do we need another forward who isn’t exactly the most prolific in the Premier League?
Charlie Austin and Hal Robson-Kanu proved in their most recent top-flight seasons that they are not regular goalscorers in that league while Gayle’s two goals in his last two outings are his only goals since he left West Brom.
We do love Gayle and we will never forget how he tore up the Championship for Darren Moore but we should be moving onto other targets if we win promotion.
In other West Brom news, Alan McInally hailed this “brilliant” Albion player on Wednesday night.
