‘To be honest…’ – Leeds big name delivers frank West Brom admission

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has claimed that he wasn’t even aware of West Brom beating Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 in midweek.

The Baggies cruised their way to a comfortable win over the Owls thanks to a Charlie Austin penalty and two goals from loanee Matheus Pereira.

The result, coupled with Leeds’ 1-1 draw against Luton Town, allowed Albion to close the gap at the top of the table to just one point.

But Phillips insisted that he didn’t watch the match, and had no idea of the scoreline.

Speaking to The Independent, he said: “To be honest I didn’t even watch it [West Brom].

“I don’t even know the score. What was the score?

“I try not to look at the other results, I try to just focus on our games and how we’re doing and not focus on anybody else.

“I’d rather not know. It just adds more pressure if we feel teams are creeping up behind us. I’d rather not think about it.”

We can understand not watching the game, but not even knowing the score seems a bit excessive.

With things being as tight as they are at the top of the table, you would assume that Leeds would be eager to keep a close eye on how things are panning out around them.

The fact that Phillips is suggesting that he wants to minimise the pressure on he and his teammates speaks volumes as to the amount of pressure that Leeds are clearly feeling already.

Let’s not forget that they bottled a very strong position this time last year, and with one win in three since the restart, they have hardly hit the ground running this time around.

Promotion is obviously more important than winning the title this season, but on the basis of this, we think that the top spot is there for the taking.
