West Brom attacker Kyle Edwards has hailed promotion rival Kalvin Phillips after Leeds United beat Blackburn on Saturday.

Leeds moved four points clear of the Baggies with a 3-1 victory at Ewood Park with Phillips, Patrick Bamford and Mateusz Klich all getting themselves on the scoresheet against Tony Mowbray’s side.

Albion can respond to that on Sunday when they take on Hull City at The Hawthorns but ahead of that game, 22-year-old Edwards has shown there’s no animosity between him and Leeds midfielder Phillips on Instagram.

Phillips posted images from Leeds’ win at Blackburn on his personal Instagram account and among the number of people replying to the post, Edwards was one of them.

He said: “Big goal.”

It certainly was a big goal.

Phillips has been tremendous for Leeds this season and even though we are West Brom supporters, we cannot play down how good the 24-year-old has been for our promotion rivals.

If Leeds didn’t have Phillips, they would not be top right now.

There has been a lot of discussion, as there always is, about who the best player in the Championship is.

West Brom fans are likely to say Matheus Pereira while Leeds fans are bound to argue that it is Phillips.

West Brom

They are both different players who play different roles but they are definitely the top two in the division without a doubt.

Phillips doesn’t score many goals but when he does they are usually special ones like he bagged at Blackburn on Saturday.

It is a shame that Mowbray couldn’t do us any favours by beating Leeds or at least drawing with them but one the balance of the season, West Brom and Leeds deserve to go up together and the most important team to keep an eye on are without doubt Brentford.
