‘Really tough’ – Sky Sports pundit makes worrying West Brom prediction ahead of clash v Derby
Former striker Dean Ashton has sent West Brom a dire warning ahead of the game against Derby this evening saying he thinks it will be “really tough” for the Baggies to stop Brentford nicking second place.
Fellow pundit Joleon Lescott added that nothing short of three points will do.
Brentford came from behind to pick up all three points against Charlton on Tuesday night and that leaves them just two points behind the Baggies in third.
Talking on The Football Show on Sky Sports (8/7, 10.30am) Ashton said Brentford had been “defensively outstanding” along with Leeds.
“I wouldn’t bet against them winning every game between now and the end of the season,” Ashton added. “I think it’s going to be really tough for West Brom to stop them.”
Joleon Lescott said: “They [West Brom] just have to win. They’re in control of their own destiny and if they win their games they go up automatically.
“Tonight’s a huge game for West Brom. If West Brom don’t come away with all three points then Brentford will really think they can catch them.”
Baggies to bounce on
Brentford certainly aren’t making it easy for either West Brom or Leeds.
But we’re not sure why the pundits are talking Leeds up and West Brom down.
The game against Derby should see us going two clear of Leeds and piling all the pressure on them.
They’ve got a tough game on Thursday against a resurgent Stoke and could find themselves looking over their shoulder ahead of the weekend.
Lescott is right when he says that only three points will do later today, though. Losing to Brentford was the big blow but that’s behind us now and we’ve started scoring again.
Derby won’t be relishing a trip to The Hawthorns and the bookies have us as overwhelming favourites for the win at 8/11.
