These West Brom fans rave about ‘Incredible’ player v Derby: ‘Selling Rooney back to the MLS’
West Brom midfielder Romaine Sawyers enjoyed one of his best performances in blue and white stripes as Albion beat Derby 2-0 on Wednesday.
Grady Diangana and Dara O’Shea will have grabbed the headlines with their goals in each half at The Hawthorns but it was midfielder Sawyers who really had fans talking on Twitter.
According to stats by WhoScored, the former Brentford midfielder completed more passes than any other West Brom player [52] and had a pass accuracy of 90 per cent.
Also, no Derby player managed to dribble the ball past him and he was not dispossessed once.
It was a complete display by Sawyers in the middle of the park as the Baggies bagged their third win in a row and moved top of the Championship table, albeit until Thursday when Leeds play Stoke.
Still, fans were drooling over what they saw from the academy graduate and here is a selection of their tweets:
Sawyers has been criticised a lot by fans this season.
His style of play is not everyone’s cup of tea because while he does complete a lot of passes, a lot of them are played sideways or backwards.
But Sawyers’ game is all about keeping the ball. When does he ever make a mistake or play his team-mates into a bad situation?
He’s the best passer of a ball in this side and also the cleverest playmaker in the squad.
Sawyers is an asset and it is great to see fans so happy with him this week.
In other West Brom news, Albion fans have hit out at Nathan Ferguson for his tweet about the latest contract news at The Hawthorns.
