WBA Former Players Association hits out at some West Brom fans over Don Goodman

Don Goodman made more appearances for West Brom than any other club during his career and wasn’t half a good striker for the Baggies.

However, a four-year spell at Wolves later in his career tarnished his reputation among a lot of supporters, with many dubbing the Sky Sports commentator as ‘Dingle Don’ whenever he talks about Albion.

On Wednesday night, we heard Goodman commentate on West Brom’s 2-0 win against Derby and a lot of fans did not hear the former striker have a single good word to say about the Black Country club.

There has been persistent moaning about the 54-year-old’s so-called bias for years now but it has now got to the point where the WBA Former Players Association has stood up for him and hit out at supporters who have been criticising him.

“Don wears the shirt, a blue and white one. He played for many Clubs, inc the Wolves but also was a key player for us. He gives a professional view of a game, no bias but a true view that statistics back up his comments. WBA fans please back one of your own stop the negativity,” a tweet by their official Twitter account said.

Even with that tweet being posted, some West Brom fans took it as a chance to hit out at Goodman even more,

Here is a selection of their reactions:

Because Goodman used to play for West Brom, do fans expect him to be a happy clapper for the club?

Just because he says things that go against the grain, doesn’t mean he is biased against the Baggies and on Wednesday night, he just seemed to be quite impressed by Derby and their approach to the game.

It doesn’t mean he didn’t praise Albion at all and, in fact, we have written several stories this season where Goodman has been very positive about Slaven Bilic’s players.

Most recently, he dubbed Hal Robson-Kanu as West Brom’s “unsung hero” this season and was blown away by Matheus Pereira’s display against Birmingham despite the Baggies not being able to score a goal.

Sure, Goodman might say things that are a bit questionable at times but doesn’t every commentator?

And if you search for his name on Twitter whenever he is commentating on a non-West Brom game, you can guarantee that we are not the only club whose supporters have it in for the ex-Wolves striker.

In other West Brom news, Albion fans have hit out at Nathan Ferguson for his tweet about the latest contract news at The Hawthorns.
