West Brom Super Fans thrilled by ‘Man mountain’ display in win v Derby: ‘Brilliant’, ‘Excellent’

This is part of a regular series from our panel of West Brom Super Fans. Each week, our Super Fans will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around The Hawthorns.

Dara O’Shea scored his second West Brom goal on Wednesday night as he rounded off an impressive 2-0 win against Derby at The Hawthorns.

The 21-year-old defender has been promoted to the Baggies first-team by Slaven Bilic and it would be fair to say that he has done a tremendous job in pretty much all of his outings.

O’Shea perhaps saved his best performance in blue and white stripes for this week though as he shone against Derby – even before he scored his brilliant glancing header at the near-post.

We asked our panel of West Brom Super Fans for their thoughts on the Irish defender’s display and here is what they had to say:

O’Shea’s been called a “man mountain” for his performance versus the Rams and when you take a look at the stats, you can see why.

According to WyScout, the right-back made a stunning nine interceptions, made 16 recoveries, won seven of the 10 aerial duels he encountered and topped off his display with a sublime header to seal the win.

It doesn’t get any better than that for a young defender, surely?

One of the Super Fans also described O’Shea potentially being the best academy product to enter the first-team for a long time.

West Brom’s academy is brilliant but it seems that with a lot of players, they get onto the cusp of being a first-team regular and then for whatever reason, fade away.

We’ve seen it over the years with George Thorne, Saidio Berahino, Sam Field and Nathan Ferguson.

For one reason or another, none of them lasted too long in the Baggies first-team but we hope that O’Shea can break that trend and be in the starting line-up for the foreseeable future.

In other West Brom news, Diangana’s shared a major injury update about himself after being taken off in the second half against Derby.
