‘It will be an honour if they join us’ – Club confirm they want West Brom and Aston Villa duo
Al-Ittihad’s official spokesperson Ahmed Sadek Diab has said that it would be an “honour” if West Brom defender Ahmed Hegazi joined the Saudi Arabian club.
Sky Sports reported in the winter that Al-Ittihad had a £3.4million bid to sign the 29-year-old Egypt international rejected by the Baggies.
And it seems the Middle Eastern club is still keen on landing Hegazi, with Diab revealing that he and Aston Villa’s Mahmoud Trezeguet are players they would love to strike a deal with.
“We still have eight games to go in the league and our position on the league table is quite critical,” Diab told Al-Nahar TV, as quoted by KingFut.
“We didn’t discuss with the manager which players we want to bring next season and we still don’t have a clear plan or decided which positions need reinforcement.
“Hossam Ashour is a great player and Hegazi and Trezeguet will be great assets for any team and it will be an honour if they join us.
“When we improve the club’s situation we’ll think about which players we want to include.”
Express & Star journalist Joseph Masi has previously said that he has a feeling Hegazi will leave The Hawthorns at the end of this season – something we agree with.
The Egypt international may feel he is too good to be sitting on the bench at a Championship club, which is pretty much what has happened with him this season.
However, it is not as though Hegazi hasn’t played a huge role for the Baggies as he’s still made 14 Championship appearances this season, with Albion winning 50 per cent of those games.
He was involved in a training ground incident around the same time Al-Ittihad’s bid for him was rejected but it would be fair to say that he has since got his head down and worked hard like a true professional.
Hegazi is a good centre-back and we think he’s way too good for a team like Al-Ittihad.
Hopefully, if he does leave West Brom in the next transfer window, it will be to join a team in a more respectable league than the Saudi Arabian one.
