Local journo claims unearthed West Brom ‘gem’ could save Bilic ‘millions’
West Brom have “unearthed themselves another gem” in young defender Dara O’Shea, according to Birmingham Mail journalist Joseph Chapman.
The 21-year-old put in a fine display for the Baggies against Derby County in midweek, and even managed to get himself on the scoresheet in a 2-0 win.
And Chapman is of the opinion that the Irishman could save Albion “millions” in the transfer market as they look for options at right full-back.
Writing in a piece for the Mail, the reporter wrote: “In truth, we knew it before Wednesday – Dara O’Shea’s latest display only served to hammer home the fact that Albion and Bilic have unearthed themselves another gem.”
O’Shea has made 13 Championship appearances so far this season.
Wednesday evening was a really great indicator of just how promising O’Shea can be.
His presence up and down the right flank was relentless, and he looked sound on both the front and back foot.
According to Wyscout, the full-back made nine interceptions, which is 3.83 more than his season average.
He also delivered more crosses than he does on average, as well as having 100% ratings in both shot accuracy and dribbling success.
If he can continue to perform at that level, then he could be a real option for Slaven Bilic’s men going forward.
At 21, he still has plenty of time to learn and grow, but on the basis of what we’ve seen already, we’re inclined to agree with Chapman – O’Shea looks like an absolute gem.
In other West Brom news, Albion could be invited to play for silverware at Wembley next month.
