Many West Brom fans blast ‘Awful’ senior player in 1-1 v Blackburn: ‘Does my head in’

West Brom fans ripped into Kyle Bartley for his role in Blackburn’s goal as the Baggies drew 1-1 at Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon.

Slaven Bilic opted to stick with the former Swansea defender despite Ahmed Hegazi being available again after serving his one-match ban but that decision wasn’t justified based on the reaction to Bartley’s performance in Lancashire.

Joe Rothwell equalised for Rovers in the 63rd minute after a woeful defensive effort from the West Brom backline.

Rothwell seemed to have been left with all the time and space in the world to slot the ball past Sam Johnstone, leading to West Brom fans to bemoan Bartley’s defensive effort in that particular phase of play.

Everyone could have done a lot better to stop Blackburn scoring that goal.

At times this season, the defence has really let Albion down and it is one area that really needs improving once the transfer window re-opens.

As for the Bartley-Hegazi debate, it seems that Bilic just goes with whoever is playing best at that time.

Bartley played well to keep a clean sheet against Derby while Hegazi was suspended so you can see why he wasn’t dropped this weekend.

Consistency is a good thing in the defence but it is hard to say who should definitely start alongside Semi Ajayi at centre-back.

In other West Brom news, fans hailed this Albion player as being “better than Messi” against Blackburn.
