‘100%’ – Kevin Phillips issues West Brom play-off verdict after draw v Blackburn

Kevin Phillips has claimed that West Brom would “100%” struggle to gather themselves if they had to face a play-off campaign this summer.

The Baggies dropped two points against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, and now must take seven points from their last three matches to guarantee automatic promotion.

Brentford lead the chasing pack, and closed the gap on Albion to just three points with a commanding win over Derby County.

West Brom face a tricky clash against Fulham on Tuesday evening, with the unwelcome prospect of a play-off run looming ever larger.

And Phillips had expressed his concerns for the Baggies if they have to go down that route.

Speaking during an appearance on EFL on Quest (July 11th, 9pm), the ex-Hawthorns hitman was asked by host Colin Murray whether Albion would struggle to ready themselves for a play-off battle.

Phillips replied: “100%, especially with them being in the top two most of the season.

“Of course, what happened last year, I was there for the second leg, the disappointment. So that’ll be fresh in their mind as well.

“It’s going to be tough because of Brentford.

“They’ll be worried I hope it doesn’t affect them, I hope they get over the line, but the pressure is really on.”

Right now, more than ever, we need positivity.

But it’s hard not to see Brentford as a major, major threat to our automatic promotion hopes, and increasingly the spectre of a play-off run looms large.

The way that the Bees are playing, you wouldn’t put it past them to take nine points from their last three matches.

Ultimately, that would mean that West Brom need to take seven points from their last three matches.

Tuesday’s game has taken on a huge amount of significance now, and a loss could spell big trouble for Slaven Bilic’s men.

In other West Brom news, Daryl Burgess could not believe this decision by Bilic in the draw with Blackburn.
