Exclusive: Aston Villa handed transfer blow by West Brom – pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips has claimed West Brom have dealt Aston Villa with a transfer blow after getting Rayhaan Tulloch tied down to a new contract at The Hawthorns.

On Tuesday, Albion announced on their official website that the 19-year-old had signed a new four-year-long contract amid interest from rival clubs.

Brighton, West Ham and Rangers [Scottish Sun] were all linked with Tulloch but Aston Villa were also credited with an interest in the young forward [Daily Mail].

Phillips is glad that Tulloch has committed his future to the Baggies and believes that Villa have missed out on a potentially good signing.

“It’s a bit of a blow for Aston Villa,” the talkSPORT pundit told West Brom News. “It’s always nice to get someone tied down on that contract.

“It’s a blow for them but good news for West Brom.”

It certainly is good news for the Baggies.

Tulloch is a top young player and has really shone in Premier League 2 this season by scoring nine goals and supplying four assists in 14 appearances in the Under-23s competition.

Plenty of clubs were keen on the teenager but the fact that Slaven Bilic is gradually introduced him into the first-team is likely to have played a key role in him agreeing new terms.

In other West Brom news, Daryl Burgess could not believe this decision by Bilic in the draw with Blackburn.
