View: Stunning Brentford stat proves that West Brom are battling one of Europe’s best
One way or another, you would wager that West Brom are going to have to go right the way down to the wire with their promotion bid.
Coming into the Championship restart, Albion looked to be fairly secure in the top two, but now, after Saturday’s draw against Blackburn Rovers, the gap between themselves and Brentford is just three points.
Given the fact that the Bees will be firm favourites going into their three remaining fixtures against Preston North End, Stoke City, and Barnsley, it’s not inconceivable that the Baggies might have to take seven points from their last three matches to avoid the play-offs.
But it’s worth pointing out that West Brom haven’t really done too much wrong.
Yes, there was a wobble straight after the restart, but since then they’ve picked up 10 out of 12 points.
That’s promotion form, especially in the Championship.
Instead, the fact that Brentford have narrowed the gap on the top two to just three points is a massive reflection of their own irresistible run.
The Bees have won every single one of their games since action got back underway.
In fact, according to talkSPORT, the only two teams in the entirety of Europe who can match that record are Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
That’s absolutely absurd, and it’s little wonder that their making up ground at a staggering rate.
For West Brom’s part, there can’t be too many complaints about being chased down by a side who are literally mixing it with Europe’s elite, but we have to find a way to dig deep and hold them off for just a little while longer.
