‘Screw Blackburn’ – West Brom boss Bilic fires back after automatic promotion blow

Slaven Bilic has claimed that he is still confident that his West Brom side have enough left in the tank to see themselves over the line in this season’s Championship promotion race.

The Baggies saw their cushion over third-placed Brentford reduced to just three points after a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Albion now face a must-win clash against Fulham on Tuesday evening.

But Bilic has insisted that his men are still in control when it comes to ensuring their Premier League status for next season.

As quoted by the Birmingham Mail, he said: ““Everything is there.

“Just because in the last game we didn’t convert those chances – we should have more confidence than before the Blackburn game because of the way we played.

“So what I am saying is ‘Screw Blackburn’ now, we have no reason whatsoever to be less confident. None.

“We didn’t [win] against Birmingham, that was missing but then after the Brentford game, the quality, the legs, the combinations, the bench, chances, everything is there. That’s the reason why I am confident.”

If we go up this season, you can bet your last fiver that we won’t make it easy for ourselves.

Stress is just the West Brom way, and why should this campaign be any different?

Saturday’s result was a blow, there’s no two ways about it, especially when we’re duking it out with a Brentford side whose form is as good as Real Madrid’s right now.

But fundamentally, Bilic is right.

This is still our promotion race to lose, and if we can beat Fulham on Tuesday night, suddenly things tip back in our favour and we would look as if we have a really decent chance of going up automatically.

That game is, without question, the biggest of our season, so here’s hoping that Bilic’s defiant message resonates with his players enough to help us pick up a vital three points.
