‘Air-to-surface missile’ – Jim White savages West Brom star after display in 0-0 v Fulham
Jim White has slammed West Brom midfielder Matheus Pereira after his antics in the 0-0 draw with Fulham on Tuesday evening.
Pereira overreacted to a touch on the head from Fulham defender Michael Hector after being fouled.
He clutched his head and rolled around the pitch in what, even most West Brom fans would admit, was a bit embarrassing.
Talking on the White & Sawyer Show (talkSPORT, 16/7, 10am) former player Clinton Morrison tried to defend Pereira but White wasn’t having any of it.
“For anyone listening that hasn’t seen it,” White said, “this is all over social media at the moment.
“Pereira is on the floor, Hector gives him a touch to say, ‘are you okay?’. Pereira grabs his head like he’s been struck by an air-to-surface missile, grabs his head and rolls around.
“The only thing he should do is board a flight to Brazil and apologise when he gets to Rio.
“Is he any good? I’ve never heard of him.”
Morrison assured him he was a very, very good player.
Pereira has been an absolute star this season but we would rather he cut these sort of antics out of his game. There was no reason to react like he did.
Saying that, it is the sort of stuff that happens on a football pitch from time to time and there was a good shot of Perieria smiling to Hector after the incident.
On the live commentary, Mick McCarthy said if that was the only downside to a player who only cost £8m, then it wasn’t bad.
We’ll go along with that and we’ll hope it’s not something that becomes more commonplace.
As for White’s comments, he really should know who Pereira is unless he’s being facetious, and the touch by Hector definitely wasn’t to see if Pereira was okay.
In other West Brom news, Albion have been tipped to sign this Man United player on a £37,500-a-week loan deal.
