‘Always excites me’ – Exclusive: Kevin Phillips heralds West Brom talent v Fulham

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

West Brom will have no worries in their promotion push if Matheus Pereira plays to the best of his ability over their next two matches, according to Kevin Phillips.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, the former Baggies hitman claimed that the 24-year-old “excites” him, and always looks like creating danger whenever he is on the ball.

Pereira has been in fine form since the Championship restart, scoring twice and providing four assists.

And even though he was not able to replicate that creativity in the 0-0 draw against Fulham on Tuesday, he was still Phillips’ standout performer.

“I can’t look any further than Pereira again”, he told West Brom News.

“He always excites me when he gets on the ball. It always looks like something’s going to happen.

“I probably sound like a broken record every week saying the same own thing.

“He’s certainly a player who excites me, and if he can turn it on in the next two games, I don’t see any problems for West Brom.”

It’s hard to disagree too much with Phillips on this one – Pereira has consistently been the Baggies’ shining light this season, and his tally of 17 assists is the highest in the Championship by a considerable margin.

Even on an off day, he still looks like one of our sharpest threats, and if he is on song against Huddersfield and QPR, he could well be the man to carry us back to the top flight.

In other West Brom news, Albion could be invited to play for silverware at Wembley next month.
