‘I’d be confident’ – Neil Warnock issues verdict on who would win WBA v Cardiff play-off clash

Neil Warnock has claimed that West Brom would lose to Cardiff City if they had to face them in the Championship play-offs.

The Baggies still hold their promotion fate in their own hands, and know that wins against Huddersfield Town and QPR in their next two matches will be enough to see them seal a return to the Premier League.

Third-placed Brentford have won every single one of their matches since the restart, however, and are just one point behind Albion in the table.

A play-off run is, therefore, still a very real possibility.

For their part, Cardiff occupy the final play-off spot, and if they do retain that sixth place finish, they will likely play either West Brom or Brentford.

And Warnock, who used to manage the Bluebirds, believes that his former side would beat the Baggies over the course of two legs.

Speaking to Wales Online, he said: “Well, they’re in the top six and I think they’ll go up. I really hope they do, that group of players.

“I can only see Brentford perhaps beating them over two legs, but I don’t see any other team doing it. Cardiff have to hope Brentford go up automatically.

“If so, I’d be confident about them overcoming West Brom, Fulham or Nottingham Forest. I really would.

“There’s momentum with Cardiff, they’re so hard to beat. I don’t think those other teams can stop them.”

These are big words from Warnock, especially when Cardiff have looked more than stoppable on several occasions since the restart.

Of course, they have picked up some stellar results, including a 2-0 win over Leeds United, but they have also lost games too.

Less than a week ago, for instance, they went down 2-0 to a Fulham side that they could quite easily come up against in the play-offs.

The Bluebirds are a decent side – any team who makes the play-offs has to be – but all things considered, they certainly aren’t as infallible as Warnock is suggesting here.

In other West Brom news, Albion have been tipped to sign this Man United player on a £37,500-a-week loan deal.
