‘Interesting’ – Sky pundit delivers West Brom promotion verdict & makes crazy Brentford claim

There are probably a few West Brom fans who need a bit of reassurance now, after Brentford won again on Wednesday night.

That leaves them just a point behind West Brom with two games left.

Reassurance came from Sky Sports on Thursday morning from pundits Emile Heskey and Phil Babb.

Talking on The Football Show (Sky Sports, 16/07) Heskey thinks that it’s too late for Brentford to take their charge into the top two.

Babb thinks that West Brom will take six points from the last two games anyway and made a crazy claim, saying Thomas Frank might even consider giving up on the top two and resting key players for the play-offs.

“They [Brentford] are in the ascendance now but it’s probably a little bit too late to get into the automatics,” Heskey said. “You never know but they’ve done fantastic up to this point.”

Babb said: “It’s an interesting one isn’t it? You look at the fixtures and West Brom have got Huddersfield and QPR so you’d expect them to come away with six points.

“Does the Brentford manager think, we’ve got the play-offs, do I risk key players to try and catch west Brom or do I rest them for the play-offs?

“If they continue their form, they’re just blowing teams away. If I look at the play-offs, I still think Brentford will get promotion through the play-offs.”

Holy trinity

Leeds, us and Brentford all going up? We’d take that. West Brom and Leeds have dominated the Championship and Brentford are the form team now.

We don’t want to have to go up via the play-offs. And we think that Babb is right when he says we’ll get six points from our last two games securing automatic promotion.

However, we don’t agree with him when he says Frank might rest key players. That’s a ridiculous claim when they’ve come this far.

They can still catch both Leeds and West Brom, and even if they don’t then they’ll want to keep their amazing momentum going. This is going all the way to the wire.

In other news, Albion could be invited to play for silverware at Wembley next month.
