‘West Brom get away with that’ – Darren Moore delivers verdict on penalty appeals v Hudds
Darren Moore claims that both West Brom and Huddersfield should have been award penalties in the first half of Albion’s 2-1 loss on Friday.
Early on, Romaine Sawyers appeared to trip Frazier Campbell on the edge of the penalty area when Chris Willock was on the ball and making a run into the box.
Shortly before Dara O’Shea scored for the Baggies, Grady Diangana also had a penalty shout when he was bulldozed to the ground by Richard Stearman when a high ball was launched into the penalty area.
Former Baggies player and manager Moore believes both could have been awarded.
“Both teams have had clear shouts for penalties,” Moore said on Sky Sports Main Event at half time.
“Look at Romaine and where Frazier Campbell is. We’ve seen these given, that’s the thing and it’s a chance for a penalty shout. West Brom get away with that one.
“And then you’ve got this incident here. There’s the delivery into the box, you would say Stearman’s trying to get back into position but does bundle [Diangana] over and if he doesn’t, he’s there to try and get on the end of that to head it in.
“Both teams have had penalty claims that, on another occasion, could’ve been given.”
The shove on Diangana was 100 per cent a penalty. In fact, we would go so far to say that it was a stonewall penalty.
Stearman had his eyes on the ball but that does not excuse him from charging at Diangana as though he’s not there, putting his hands on him and pushing him to the ground.
It was a penalty but considering O’Shea was offside for his goal, Albion’s luck balanced out.
Huddersfield’s penalty appeal is a bit different because although Sawyers was lucky it wasn’t flagged up by an official, it might have been just outside the penalty area.
