Exclusive: West Brom 29-year-old exit on the cards in summer – pundit
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has claimed that Ahmed Hegazi could be someone who West Brom look to shift on in the summer transfer window.
Hegazi, 29, has spent three years at The Hawthorns but has struggled to get a consistent spot in Slaven Bilic’s plans this season.
He has made just 16 Championship appearances this term and was the subject of a reported £3.4million from Al-Ittihad in the winter [Sky Sports].
Al-Ittihad have recently confirmed they are still interested in Hegazi [KingFut] and talkSPORT pundit Phillips reckons the Egypt international could be moved on to fund a replacement.
When asked if Hegazi could move on in the summer, Phillips told West Brom News: “Possibly. Maybe his time at the Baggies is up.
“The defence might be an area Slaven will look at in the summer and unfortunately, Hegazi might be the one who makes way.
“It’s a shame because I’m sure he’ll love to see it through and help the side. He’s been there a while now but sometimes players have to give way for other players to come in.”
Hegazi’s form has been very inconsistent since the Championship season restarted.
He scored before getting sent off against Hull, put in a man of the match display against Fulham and against Huddersfield he was one of the worst players on the pitch.
West Brom need to find rhythm and continuity in their defence and Hegazi’s up-and-down form has not helped Bilic find that this season.
It might be best for all parties if he is moved on in the summer as he has two years left on his contract and could bring in some decent funds for the Baggies.
In other West Brom news, Adrian Durham has slammed this Albion player after a clip of him went viral on Twitter.
