E&S journo names ‘little thing’ Livermore did after being subbed v H’field that he loved

West Brom mainstay Jake Livermore is a “real leader” who should never be subbed, according to the Express and Star journalist Joe Masi.

The 30-year-old was taken off by Slaven Bilic during the 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town on Friday evening, with the Baggies conceding their second after he had left the field.

But even though he was not on the pitch, Masi has revealed that the midfielder took an active role in speaking to his teammates during the scheduled drinks break in the second half.

Speaking on the Baggies Broadcast, the reporter said: “You need leadership.

“The game isn’t just about what you do on the ball, it’s about shape, it’s about structure, it’s about discipline. Livermore, not even fully fit, provides that.

“I absolutely love him. He was subbed, but during the drinks break he got straight onto the pitch, he was back out there giving instructions. It’s just little things like that, no-one else does that.

“That’s just the character he is. He’s a real leader. For me, you never sub him.”

We have to admit, we were a little bit baffled to see Livermore taken off against Huddersfield.

This was the second time that Bilic had made the decision in as many weeks, and the first time he did it, against Blackburn Rovers, the structure of Albion’s midfield crumbled completely.

What’s even more confusing is the fact that Bilic has openly admitted that Livermore wasn’t carrying a knock or any kind of complaint.

The fact that so many fans were up in arms with him removing Livermore against Rovers should tell you all you need to know about how highly he is rated, and we just have to hope that the manager doesn’t pull a similar trick against QPR.
