Exclusive: West Brom open talks over new attacker deal
West Brom have opened talks over a new deal for striker Callum Morton following his impressive spell on loan at Northampton, West Brom News can reveal.
Morton, 20, joined Northampton on loan in January and helped fire them to promotion to League One by scoring eight goals in 12 appearances.
He has since returned to The Hawthorns after scoring in the Cobblers’ League Two play-off final win over Exeter at Wembley but is now in the final year of his contract with the Black Country club.
A Hawthorns source has told West Brom News that the Baggies have now opened a dialogue with Morton in a bid to extend his stay at the club.
Morton is yet to make a senior appearance for Albion but his form on loan at Northampton this season suggests he could be edging closer to breaking into Slaven Bilic’s plans.
However, in an interview with West Brom’s official website earlier this month, the former Yeovil attacker revealed he would be open to being sent out on loan again next term in order to continue his development.
“The aim when you are at your parent club is always to play first-team football there but if that’s not possible for whatever reason, or if they don’t think I’m ready yet, then I’ll happily go on another loan to whatever level is deemed necessary for me to play,” he said.
West Brom’s plans for Morton for next season are yet to be made clear but with the club in discussions about extending his contract, it is clear that they do not want to run the risk of losing him for nothing next summer.
In other West Brom news, Harvey Barnes reacted to Albion’s promotion on Twitter.
